Somdev Devvarman Creates History And Won First Gold Medal in Men’s Single Tennis Game

Another gold medal for India: Today on 23rd Nov, 2010, another history has created by Indian player in Asian games. Somdev Devvarman, a tennis player won the gold medal in the men’s singles tennis game for the first time in Indian history. He defeated the top seed and world number 44 player Denis Istomin by 6-1 6-2 in the lop-sided summit clash. By winning this match, he has won the second gold medal of his tennis career and seventh medal for India. Before this, he has captured the yellow medal for India in men’s double tennis with Sanam Singh. It was the record of the Indian history as no one has won the gold medal before this in men’s singles. We have only three bronze medals to show in this game which is won by Leander Paes at Hiroshima in 1994, Mahesh Bhupathi at Bangkok in 1998 and Prahlad Srinath at Bangkok in 1998. Till now, Somdev Devvarman has won three medals in this edition of games. Thus India has rounded off with five medals in Tennis game and is just two medals left what it has got at Doha Asian games in the year 2006. At that time in Doha, Leander Paes had won two gold medals.One with Mahesh Bhupati in men’s doubles and other with Sania Mirza in mixed doubles and Sania Mirza had won the silver medal in the women’s singles.

Indians player do well: This time as expected, the performance of Indian players is not so bad, they are doing well and tried to achieve at least a medal per day. All put their efforts to win the game and medal for their country. Their efforts are shown in their games and this is a good sign for India. This year in CWG, Indian players performed well and after watching their performance in CWG, it is expected that they will be doing good in the Asian games and the result are quite satisfactory. At least they did not disappoint and won some medals till now. Today is the 11th day of the games and there are still two more days to work. We just hope that in coming four days, they will definitely do well and grab few more medals for India. We just give them good luck and best wishes of us.
