Afghanistan Vs. India- India Won By 7 Wickets


India beat Afghanistan: India played their opening match of ICC T20 World Cup against Afghanistan on May 1, 2010. Match was played at Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet in St Lucia. India was winner of first T20 world cup played in year 2007 while Afghanistan was playing for the first time in the tournament. Indian skipper, M S Dhoni won the coin toss and put opponent team on bat. Afghanistan scored 115 runs in 20 over losing eight wickets. Opener batsman, Noor Ali and Asghar Stanikzai played remarkable inning for team and scored 50 and 30 runs respectively. Indian team got the winning total losing three wickets in 14.5 over and registered the victory. Ashish Nehra was given man of the match award for his brilliant bowling performance for Indian team.

Afghanistan Team

Afghanistan Inning: Noor Ali and Karim Sadiq started inning for Afghanistan. Team had bad start as they lost their first wicket as Karim Sadiq when team was at total of 6 runs and he had not even opened his run account. Mohammad Shahzad and Nowroz Mangal also went pavilion cheaply scoring 6 and 5 runs respectively. Afghanistan lost their three wickets at total of 29 runs. Asghar Stanikzai tried to contribute for team along with Noor Ali. They made partnership of 68 runs for fourth wicket. Noor Ali scored 50 runs off 48 balls with four fours and in very next over Asghar Stanikzai also lost his wicket after adding 30 runs with three sixes in his inning. Rest of batsmen even failed to reach in double digit score. In front of Indian bowling attack, Afghanistan scored total of 115 runs losing eight wickets. Ashish Nehra was most successful bowler who firstly gave breakthrough in early in the inning and later took wicket of opener Noor Ali who was playing extremely well. He took three wickets in match in his 4 over giving 19 runs. Parveen Kumar also bowled well and took two wickets in his three over of bowling. Zaheer Khan and Ravinder Jadeja clinched one wicket each.

Indian Team

Indian Inning: After good job from Indian bolwers, it was turn of batsmen to play their part of game to make team win the opening match. Gautam Gambhir and Murli Vijay started the inning for India but Afghanistan got first breakthrough very early. Gambhir lost his wicket after adding just four runs off his bat. Mohammad Nabi caught him on the ball of Dawlat Adhmadzi. Suresh Raina added 18 runs off 13 balls with one four and one six in his short inning. He was found leg before the wicket on the ball of Samiullah Shenwari. Murli Vijay played brilliant inning of 48 runs off 46 runs with two fours and three sixes. India lost three top order batsmen at total of 101 runs in 13.4 over. Yuvraj Singh scored unbeaten 23 runs off 22 balls with one six while skipper, M S Dhoni scored unbeaten 15 runs off just 6 balls with two sixes. Dawlat Ahmadzai, Samiullah Shenwari and Hamid Hassan took one wicket each. India won the match by seven wickets with 31 balls remaining to bowl. With this victory, India got two points.
