West Indies to host T20 World Cup: International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup 2010 will be hosted by West Indies. The ICC accepted the West Indies cricket board’s recommendation that the world cup for year 2010 to be help in Barbados, Guyana, and St. Lucia. Along with men’s world cup Twenty20, women’s world cup T20 for this year will also held in West Indies. Moreover, semi final match and final matches are decided at same venues and dates as men’s matches are scheduled. The International Cricket Council agreed with new regulations as well for the domestic cricket event and what constitutes approved or disapproved cricket. It was decided that a host member could decide whether a match or tournament within its territory was approved or disapproved. The ICC would decide in case the event is held in a non-member country. Tournament will start from April 30, 2010 with first match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Providence Stadium in Guyana and last match of the world cup will be played on 16 May, 2010 at Kensington Oval in Barbados. Next Twenty20 world cup will held in 2012 and it will be hosted by Sri Lanka.

T20 World Cup

Groups for T20 World Cup 2010: As per rules four groups are made consisting of three teams in each. So there will be total twelve teams taking part in the competition. Group A has Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia while group B consists of Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Zimbabwe. Group C has South Africa, India and Afghanistan. Last one, group D consists of host team West Indies along with England and Ireland. There will be some warm up matches before the tournament and tournament will start with group B match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Group D will also play their game on same day at same stadium between West Indies and Ireland. First match of Group C will be played on May 1, 2010. It will be played between India and Afghanistan at Beausejour Cricket Ground in St. Lucia and on same day another match will be played between Pakistan and Bangladesh of group A. Each winning team will get two points for each match while losing will get any point. In case, there is no result of match, each team will be rewarded one point. Eight teams will enter into group E and F which will consist four teams each. Two teams from each group will be qualified for this round. After that there will be two semi final matches between the two top teams coming from group E and F. It will be knockout stage and the winning teams will play in the final.

T20 World Cup

First T20 World Cup was hosted by South Africa: ICC World Twenty20 was started in year 2007 and it was hosted by South Africa from 11 September to 24 September 2007. In this thirteen day tournament there were twelve teams taking part which included all test playing teams along with 2007 WCL Division One tournament – Kenya and Scotland. Three venues were decided for the tournament which included Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, Sahara Stadium Kings mead in Durban and Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Four groups were formed with three teams each and top two teams entered into super eight round. From group A, South Africa and Bangladesh qualified for super eight round while from group B, Australia and England made their name into super eight teams. From group C, Sri Lanka and New Zealand entered into super eight round while from group D India and Pakistan went into super eight. Two groups were formed for super eight consisting of four teams each with one team from each group.  From group E, India and New Zealand made into semi final round while Pakistan and Australia reached in semi final round. First semi final match was played between New Zealand and Pakistan in which Pakistan registered victory. It was played on 22 September at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. Another semi final was played at Kingsmead in Durban on same day between India and Australia where India won the match by 15 runs and entered into final. Final match of first T20 world cup was played between India and Pakistan on 24 September, 2007 at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. India scored 157 runs losing five wickets in twenty over and in return Pakistan lost their all wicket at total of 152 runs in 19.3 over. India became the champion of first T20 world cup. Shahid Afridi of Pakistan was given man of the series award for his brilliant performance throughout the tournament.

T20 World Cup

Second T20 World Cup was hosted by England: Second Twenty20 World Cup played in year 2009 in England. It was scheduled in month of June and both men’s and women’s world cup hosted by England. Matches were played at three English grounds – Lord’s and The Oval in London, and Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Among twelve teams playing T20 world cup were all test playing nations and other three were Ireland, the Netherlands and Scotland. Format was same as first world cup. There were four groups of three teams each and two teams from each qualified for super eight round. India and Ireland qualified for super eight from first group while from group B, England and Pakistan made into super eight teams. From group C, Sri Lanka and West Indies made their place in super eight while South Africa and New Zealand qualified from group D for super eight. Two groups namely E and F were formed consisting of one qualifying team from each group. From group E, South Africa and West Indies entered into semi final stage while from group F, Sri Lanka and Pakistan succeeded to make their names into semi final. First semi final was played on 18 June at Trent Bridge in Nottingham between South Africa and Pakistan in which Pakistan defeated South Africa to enter into final while in another semi final match Sri Lanka defeated West Indies and it was played on June 19, 2009 at The Oval, London. On 21 June final match was played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Lords in London. First T20 world cup runner up, Pakistan clinched the tournament in second world cup. Tillakaratne Dilshan of Sri Lanka was given man of the series award.
