Chennai Super Kings Beat Deccan Chargers In Semi Final

Chennai Super Kings beat Deccan Chargers in semi final: In third edition of IPL, first semi final match was played between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mumbai. Mumbai Indians had won the match and qualified for the final. Second semi final was to be played between Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Chennai Super Kings had performed well in previous seasons as well as they ended as runner up in first edition of IPL and ended in semi final in second season. Again, they entered into semi final in third edition by winning seven off fourteen league matches. Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders had also won seven matches but Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore were qualified for semi final due to good net run rate. On other hand side, Deccan Chargers had won eight matches so qualified for semi final round. They had ended at last rank in first season while in second edition they became the champions. In second semifinal match of third edition of Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings defeated Deccan Chargers by difference of 38 runs. Chennai Super Kings had elected to bat first after winning toss and scored 142 runs losing seven wickets In 20 over. In return, Deccan Chargers lost their all wickets at total of 104 runs and lost the match. Bollinger of Chennai Super Kings gave 13 runs off his 4 over and clinched four wickets for which he was suitably rewarded with man of the match award. Chennai Super Kings will face Mumbai Indians in final match.

Chennai Super Kings Inning: After winning coin toss, MS Dhoni had elected to bat first. Murli Vijay and Mathew Hayden started the inning for Chennai Super Kings. Team had bad start as they lost Mathew Hayden on last ball of second over when team was at total of 12 runs and he was at an individual score of 8 runs. He was caught by Andrew Symonds on the ball of Harris. Suresh Raina came to bat at number three when Murli Vijay was playing well. Murli Vijay lost his wicket on first ball of fourth over when he was at 15 runs off 10 balls with one four and one six. He was found leg before wicket on the ball of Harris. Suresh Raina lost his wicket in next over after adding just two runs from his bat. Adam Gilchrist caught his catch on the ball of Andrew Symonds. Chennai Super Kings lost their three top order batsmen at team total of 29 runs in 4.5 over. Skipper MS Dhoni and S Badrinath had now all responsibilities to take team at a respectable score. Dhoni played steady game along with Badrinath but controlled the situation. Dhoni was at an individual score of 30 runs off 32 balls with the help of three fours when Rohit Sharma caught his catch on the ball of Harmeet Singh. Dhoni and Badrinath made partnership of 52 runs for fourth wicket. Morkel was next man to bat for team but he failed to add much for the team and lost his wicket after adding four runs from his bat. Andrew Symonds caught him on the ball of Ojha. Anirudha joined Badrinath in middle when team had lost their five wickets at total of 96 runs. Badrinath was stumped by Adam Gilchrist on the ball of RP Singh. He played a good inning for team and scored 37 runs off 41 balls with 3 fours and 1 six from his bat. Anirudha was scoring quick runs in last overs of the game. When he was at score of 24 runs off 15 balls with one four and two sixes, Gibbs caught him on the ball of Harris on fourth ball of last over. R Ashwin was unbeaten at six runs. Chennai Super Kings scored total of 142 runs in 20 over losing their seven wickets. For Deccan Chargers, Harris took three wickets while Harmeet Singh, PP Ojha, RP Singh, and Andrew Symonds got one which each.

Deccan Chargers innings: Deccan Chargers bowler did a good job as they limited Chennai Super Kings at score of 142 runs as Chennai Super Kings are known for their strong batting line up. Adam Gilchrist and Gibbs started the inning for Deccan Chargers which aim of getting the winning total. Team had very slow start as from very early in the inning, Chennai Super Kings did controlled bowling. Deccan Chargers lost their first wicket on first ball of sixth over as skipper Adam Gilchrist when team was at total of 19 runs in 5.1 over. He added 15 runs with one four and one six before Anirudha caught his catch on the ball of Bollinger. TL Suman was sent in middle to handle the situations but he failed and was caught by Suresh Raina on the ball of Bollinger after adding just four runs from his bat. Rohit Sharma also failed to contribute much and was caught by Muraltitharan on the ball of Morkel when he had added just 2 runs for his team. Gibbs was playing steady game and was at 18 runs off 26 balls when he became victim of Jakati. Deccan Chargers lost their four wickets at total of 48 runs in 10.5 over and they were too far from the target. MD Mishra was stumped by MS Dhoni on the ball of Jakati when he had added just 2 runs from his bat. Andrew Symonds and B Sumanth tried to score some runs for the team but Andrew Symonds was caught by Murli Vijay on the ball of Ashwin when he was at an individual score of 23 runs off 22 balls with the help of three fours. Bollinger strike again and took wicket of Harris on fourth ball of eighteenth over. Harris scored 15 balls of eight balls with one four and one six. In same over, Bollinger picked up wicket of Sumanth as well who was playing at 16 runs off 18 balls with two fours. Deccan Chargers lost their eight wickets at total of 103 runs. Next two batsmen also failed to contribute much for the team and team lost their all wickets at total of 104 runs. Deccan Chargers lost the match and failed to qualify for final round. Bollinger showed brilliant performance with ball as he took four wickets giving just 13 runs off his four over. Jakati took two wickets but also proved to be most expensive bowler giving 44 runs off his four over. Suresh Raina, Ashwin, Muralitharan and Morkel picked up one wicket each for Chennai Super Kings.
