KKR sign off with a big win: Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Mumbai Indians in last league match of third season of Indian Premier League. KKR failed to make through to semi finals but shown excellent performance in their last match of the season. Match was played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Mumbai Indians were at top in the table with highest number of victories in tournament and had already qualified for the semi final. Skipper of Mumbai Indians, Sachin Tendulkar was on rest and Dwayne Bravo led the team in his absence. Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by nine wickets with fifteen balls remaining to bowl. It was seventh victory of the team from their fourteen league matches of third edition of IPL. KKR ended at sixth rank after Delhi Daredevils which also had equal victories and points but run rate was better than KKR.
KKR bowlers limited MI at low total: Dwayne Bravo, standing skipper of Mumbai Indians in the match, won the coin toss and elected to bat first. Kolkata Knight Riders kept control on the game from very early stage as Shane Bond sent both openers back to pavilion early. Later Sorabh Tiwary tried to manage the condition of team along with Duminy but it was Undkat played his part of game and took wicket of Duminy and in very next over Kartik ended inning of Tiwary as well. Dwayne Bravo also failed to play skipper’s inning as wicket keeper Saha stumped him on the ball of Murli Kartik. Sathish was trying to tackle the situation in last overs of the inning but Kartik caught his catch on the ball of Manoj Tiwary. In last over Ashoka Rayudu and Binny lost their wicket. KKR bowlers limited Mumbai Indians at score of 133 runs in 20 over. Shane Bond and Murli Kartik took two wickets each with economical run rate while Manoj Tiwary, Dinda and Unadkat managed to get timely break through for the team.
After bowlers, batsmen played brilliant game: Kolkata Knight Rider’s bowlers had played brilliant game limiting the opponent team on low total and it was turn of batsmen to play their part of game. Skipper Sourav Ganguly started the inning for Kolkata Knight Riders along with McCullum. Ganguly played a skipper’s role in the game making partnership of 97 for the first wicket with McCullum. He played brilliant inning of 42 runs off 36 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Dwayne Bravo caught Ganguly on the ball of Sathish. Team needed only 37 runs to win the match when skipper lost his wicket and after him David Hussey Joined McCullum in middle to continue the winning campaign. McCullum scored unbeaten 57 runs off 56 balls with eight fours in his brilliant inning while David Hussey played inning of unbeaten 20 runs off 14 balls including one four and one six. KKR won the match in 17.3 over losing only one wicket. Murli Kartik was given man of the match award for his brilliant performance in the match.Share
