Sreesanth fined for IPL Code of Conduct breach: Pace bowler Sreesanth fined twenty per cent of his match fee due to his action of clapping at the umpire when he was no balled twice. It is incident of April 7, 2010 when Kings XI Punjab was playing against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. In third over of game against Rajasthan Royals, Sreesanth was no balled twice. He was angry with the decision made by umpire and he firstly clapped at Michael Lumb, who was batting, and later at the umpires. Match Referee Srinivas Venkataraghavan found Sreesanth victim of Indian Premier League Code of Conduct. It was Level 1 offence (Article 2.1.3) according to which is linked to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision. Referee fined him with 20 per cent of his match fee which is about USD 9000.
Sreesanth in controversies in past: Sreesanth has been in controversies in past as well. In first edition of IPL in year 2008, Sreesanth was slapped by Harbhajan Singh when Kings XI Punjab won the match against Mumbai Indians. The incident came to light as Sreesanth was caught by television cameras sobbing inconsolably on the field before the presentation ceremony. Sreesanth later downplayed the incident saying he had no complaints against Harbhajan who was like an elder brother to him. Harbhajan Singh was banned from IPL tournament and later BCCI made a seprate investigation for the incident and put five one day international match ban on him. Sreesanth had been warned in past several times for his indiscipline activities on and off field. In October 2009, he was given final warning for his on field behavior and was told that he will be suspended from domestic matches if he will continue same attitude. Kerala Cricket Association also issued him a final warning for repeatedly violating code of conduct. This was after Sreesanth failed to turn up at the Kerala Ranji Trophy team camp in Kannur.
About Sreesanth: 27 year old, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth is fast bowler from Kerala. He plays for Kings XI Punjab in Indian Premier League and has also played matches for Indian national team. Sreesanth has so far played 17 test matches for Indian team and has taken 60 wickets with his best of 8 wickets for 99 runs. He has clinched five wickets twice in international test matches. He has played 49 one day international matches from Indian team in which he has taken 68 wickets with best of 6 wickets for 55 runs. In Twenty20, he has taken 38 wickets in 42 matches he has played so far. He has made entry to Indian squad many times but sometimes due to injury or due to poor performance was dropped while he was recalled to the Indian squad for the first two Test matches against Sri Lanka in November 2009. He got the selection after being out of the national team for more than a year and half. He replaced Ishant Sharma for the second Test in Kanpur and his bowling helped Indian team to win the Test match by an innings and 144 runs.
