Pankh is ready to release: Bollywood movie “Pankh” is set to release on April 2, 2010. Movie is directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyaya and produced by Sanjay Gupta. Movie is built under the banner of Eros Entertainment and White Feather Films with many stars in the movie. Leading actors in the movie are Bipasha Basu, Maradona Robello, Daya Shankar Pandey, Ronit Roy, Mahesh Manjrekar and Lillete Dubey. Music director for the movie is given by Raju Singh while cinematographer is Somak Mukherjee. Singer Sunidhi Chauhan has sung the song “Jiya Jala Na” in the movie where Bipasha seduces Maradona. Story of movie is written by Sudipto Chattopadhyaya and he had narrated the script of movie to Rohit Roy who denied working on this movie and later Sanjay Gupta signed the movie after hearing the story for short while. Talking to Times of India writer and director of movie Sudipto Chattopadhyaya said that his movie is inspired from a documentary film titled Children of the Silver Screen which was prepared by Dilip Ghosh, in which child artistes are interviewed as adults and expressed their trauma. Bipasha Basu has cut her hairs for one song of movie as her wig did not fit in that song. Designs for the actress Bipasha Basu are executed from the idea of well known designers Rocky S and Gavin Miguel. Rocky wanted that Bipasha Basu look like two stars like Sophia Loren and Liza Minnelli from ‘Cabaret’.
Story of movie Pankh: Movie is based upon the corollary of which have happened to a child artist who once played the roles as girl, Baby Kusum being a male and after becoming adult he wants to be launched as a hero instead of playing role of girl. Boy’s family is poor and they want to get rich. Mother of boy forces him to work in film industry and forces him to work play the role of little girl in the movies. Maradona Robello has played character of Jerry while forcing mother’s role is played by Lillete Dubey. Boy was named as Jerry and later named as Master Jai for the films. As the boy reaches the teen age he becomes drug abuser who had never been to school and spends his whole time at home. Imaginary character of Nandini originated in the mind of boy to whom he loves. Nandini’s role is played by Bipasha Basu who taunts the boy and fight with him asking questions at his every move. Jerry is made to face the camera again as a young man which leads to final tragedy. Pankh highlights the general practice in the Indian film industry of casting kids in role opposing to their normal genders.
About director and producer of movie: Sanjay Gupta is producer of movie who is well known writer and director as well in Indian film industry. He is from rich business family of South Mumbai and has frequently worked with bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and has also started his own production company White Feather Films along with Sanjay Dutt which is located in Mumbai. So far he has produced movies which are still under production and some has already been released like Hathyar-The power, Woodstock Villa, Chamki Chameli, Acid factory and Shootout at Lokhandwala. He has directed and written some movies by himself like Zinda, Musafir, Kaante, Alibaug, Jung, Khauff, Ram Shastra and Aatish while he has also produced after writing the story instead of directing like movie Plan. Sanjay Gupta’s production house had produced Acid Factory and now after long time this movie “Pankh” is from his production house. Sudipto Chattopadhyay is among the directors who are still looking to break into Indian film industry. He had previously written the some segments of screen play of movie Dus Kahaniyaan and now ready to with his new movie Pankh which he has written and directed both. Movie is not commercial movie and revolves around ego’s and alter ego’s of its lead characters of movie. It is different kind of movie ever seen in Indian cinema and is among most awaited bollywood movies. Director replied on asking if the movie lies in mainstream bollywood that it is mainly an urban movie with the theme of movie identifies more with the sensibilities of the urban dwellers. He said that movie might have appeal in few rural areas as well but he has always maintained the movie touch upon a subject which is different from other mainstream bollywood movies. Bipasha Basu is given about nine types of looks in the movie.
About actress Bipasha Basu: Bipasha Basu is leading actress in the movie and she is active in bollywood since 2001. She had started her career in bollywood with movie Ajnabee which made her win film fare best female actress debut award. In year 2002, she appeared in many movies like Raaz which was big blockbuster and she was nominated for film fare best actress award for it and other movies like Chor Machaaye Shor and Gunaah. She also gave special appearance in some bollywood movies like Aankhen, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai. Next year she was seen with her first negative role in movie Jism for which she was nominated for film fare best villain award but failed to make through. As actress she worked in movies Zameen and Footpath in that year. She was nominated for film fare best supporting actress award for movie No Entry. In year 2006 she gave movies like Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye, Darna Zaroori Hai, Corporate, Dhoom 2 and Jaane Hoga Kya. She was nominated for film fare best actress award for her brilliant performance in movie Corporate while Dhoom 2 was also big hit. In last three years her remarkable movies were Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, Race, Bachna Ae Haseeno and All The Best: Fun Begins.
