Delhi Daredevils Vs Kolkata Knight Riders:DD won by 40 runs


IPL match on March 29, 2010: 26th match of third season of Indian Premier League was played between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. Before this match both teams had played six matches and had won three of those and losing other three. Kolkata Knight Riders had won their first two matches while had lost three match in series and they registered victory against Kings XI Punjab in their sixth match. Delhi Daredevils also had same story of winning first two matches of tournament and after that losing three matches and won their sixth match. In this match Delhi Daredevils won the coin toss and elected to bat first. Playing first Delhi Daredevils set a target of 178 runs to win for the opponent team. It was due to brilliant inning of DA Warner and PD Collingwood that team managed to reach such a total. In return Kolkata Knight Riders failed to get the required total and scored 137 runs losing 9 wickets in 20 over. DA Warner was suitably rewarded for his brilliant performance in the match. With this 40 run victory, Delhi Daredevils have got two more points.

Delhi Daredevils innings: Delhi Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir was back to team after recovery from injury and he won the toss and put the opponent team on field. DA Warner started the inning for Delhi Daredevils along with Virender Sehwag. Team had bad start with as team lost their star batsmen Virender Sehwag in very first over. He scored 8 runs off 3 balls and was stumped by wicket keeper Saha on the ball or Crish Gayle. Team was at total of 9 runs when team lost their first wicjet and skipper Gautam Gambhir joined Warner in middle. He failed to play a captain’s inning and lost his wicket after adding just one run from his bat. He was found leg before the wicket on the ball of Langeveldt. Wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik was next man to come to bat but he even failed to open his run account and was shown way to pavilion by Ishant Sharma. Team was in bad conditions losing their three batsmen when team had total of 38 runs. PD Collingwood took command of team with Warner and they gave team a big partnership of 128 runs for fourth wicket. Both of them played well for the team and made team reach a respectable score. PD Collingwood scored 53 runs off 45 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes in his inning. He was caught by David Hussey on the ball of Langeveldt. DA Warner played brilliant inning for the team and scored unbeaten 107 runs off 69 balls with 9 fours and 5 sixes in his inning. He was the man who batted from starting to end of the inning and made team score a good total. Team scored 177 runs in 20 over game after losing four wickets. CK Langeveldt took two wickets while Ishant Sharma and Crish Gayle managed to get one wicket each.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders innings: Kolkata Knight Riders had to chase total of 178 runs to win in 20 overs. Crish Gayle started the inning for Kolkata Knight Riders along with skipper Sourav Ganguly. They also had bad start as team lost skipper Sourav Ganguly early in the game. He scored 5 runs before Nannes shown him way to pavilion. Team was at total of 19 runs and Mandeep Singh was next man to come in middle to bat he failed to contribute for the team and lost his wicket without opening his run account. He was stumped by wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik on the ball or Amit Mishra. Manoj Tiwary also did not contribute for the team and lost his wicket on the ball of McDonalds. Team was in crucial condition by losing 3 wickets in just 4.2 over and total of 21 runs while they had to go a long way to win the match. DJ Hussey was next man to come in middle and he tried to contribute for the team with his bat. Crish Gayle was caught by Amit Mishra on the ball of Bhatia when he as at an individual score of 30 runs off 21 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes in his inning. Angelo Mathews joined David Hussey in middle to control the circumstances and tried to play some good shots. They had made partnership of 35 runs when David Hussy was caught by skipper Gautam Gambir on the ball of Yadav. He scored 29 runs off 32 balls with 2 fours and 1 six in his inning. Kolkata Knight Riders lost their fifth wicket at total of 85 runs in 13.3 over. Wicket keeper WP Saha was next man to come in to bat for the team while Angelo Mathews was shown way to pavilion by Yadav. Mathews scored 24 runs off 18 balls with 3 fours in his inning. Ajit Agarkar joined Shah in middle and contributed 17 runs from his bat and Collingwood caught his catch on his own ball. Murli Kartik added one run and lost his wicket during running between the wickets on second last ball of match while on last ball McDonalds shown way to pavilion to CK Langeveldt. WP Saha was unbeaten on 20 runs off 17 balls with 2 fours in his inning. At end of 20 over Kolkata Knight Riders were at total of 137 runs and lost the match by difference of 40 runs. For Delhi Daredevils, AB McDonald and Yadav took two wickets each while DP Nannes, Amit Mishra, T Bhatia and PD Collingwood got one wicket each.
