Today in cricket history! Curious case of March 10: Indian Cricket history  is full of its historical significant dates like 25th June, when India won the World Cup in England in 1983, similarly, 1932 can not be forgotten when India began its International journey at Lord’s, which is identified by the deep followers of the cricket. The next very important date of Indian Cricket history is 24th August which will be remembered by the cricket fans very proudly as on that day India finally won the Test and a series in England for the first time by winning the match at the Oval in 1971. Now, February 10 is also a very special and memorable day for the Indians as on the day Indian Cricket Team won her first Test Match at Chepauk in 1952. Apart from these important dates 10th March is one of the most significant dates of Indian Cricket history, as on this day two great triumphs were notched up apart 14 years. Indian team scored their maiden Test victory over West Indies in 1971 and that was enough to give them the series played in the Caribbean. Similarly, India achieved its one more important victory over Pakistan by winning the world championship of cricket one day tournament in Melbourne in 1985 where India beat back successive challenges from Pakistan, England, Australia and New Zealand. These two matches or triumphs were also notable because these were not expected earlier. The 25th anniversary of the WCC triumph is as good a time as any to recall a very significant date in Indian cricket. Therefore, March 10, either its 1971 or its 1985, is one of the dates remembered with proud and helm by Indian cricket fans.

Indian team’s Earlier Image and struggles: Indian Team was rated as no hopers, when they toured the Caribbean islands in 1971. India had never taken even the first innings lead in 23 tests matches between the two countries even dating back to 1948. They had not won even a single match but lost twelve and drawn eleven matches. But in the first test at Kingston India took first innings lead as well as enforced the follow on before West Indies managed to save Test match. But still Indian team could not escape their defeat in the second test match at Port of Spain. But, finally the date 10th really brought a great first victory for the Indians over the West Indies in 25 Tests matches, when India dominated the match literally from the first ball as Abid Ali bowled Roy Fredericks and registered a seven- wicket victory with a day to spare. The test match against West Indies was the debut match for our Little Master Sunil Gavaskar.

Indian Teams improving results: After fourteen years it was the great pleasure for the Indians when India took off for Australia and for the same Sunil Gavaskar was also proud upon. India became the World Cup Champions but since that in June, 1983, their record had taken a beating. The WCC became little tough assignment for all the seven test playing nations; those were taking part in the series where India was placed in group A along with Australia, England and Pakistan whereas in group B New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka were placed. But on current form, Indian team was rated rank outsiders and had been given a chance of making the semifinals. This time Indian team showed totally different attitude and performances they played confidently and even aggressively also. This resulted the amazing winnings one after one as the bowlers also showed their fabulous performances by picking up the wickets at regular intervals of time and the batsmen also got runs at a remarkable manner. So, Pakistan, then England and then Australia had beaten and finally India made it to the semifinals. Similarly, India won one more un-expected victory against New-Zealand and Pakistan who had shocked west Indians in the other semi-final. Now, the Indian players were playing so well like a well oiled machine that was purring along. They were performing so well and unstoppable manner that made to win them victory over Imran Khan and his team by taking beautiful, mind-blowing eight- wickets against Pakistan. The most memorable presentation of Audi car to Ravi Shastri as the man of the match proved Indian Team as one of the best performer team.
