Second test match: India had lost the first test match but they learned a lot from their mistake of first match and are trying to make a strong grip in the second test match. South African skipper GC Smith had decided to bat first after winning the coin toss but Indian bowlers shown good game and took nine wickets on the very first day giving 266 runs and team had got hope now to take the revenge of first test defeat. Day two and three were also in favor of Indian team and Indian players played well with bat with four players scoring centuries. It was combined effort of team which made team reach in strong condition and Indian team has chance to win the series and to keep their rank one in test ranking. After bowlers, batsmen shown good game and now its turn again for bowlers to play their part of game and take team to victory.
Second day of match: South Africa had lost nine wickets on first day on 266 runs and they started next day with this score and added 30 runs more to their total before losing last wicket. Bowlers had shown extremely good performance and now it was turn of Indian batsmen to play their part of game and take a good lead so that they can put pressure on the South African team in second inning. Gautam Gambhir and Virender Shewag started inning for India and they were looking in good form. India lost first wicket as Gambhir when he was at an individual score of 25 runs and team was at a total of 73 runs. He lost his wicket during running between the wickets. Murli Vijay was next man to come in middle but he failed to add much for the team and lost wicket adding just 7 runs from his bat. He was caught be De Villers on the ball of Morkel. Team was at a score of 82 runs and had lost two wickets. Now India’s most experienced player Sachin Tendulkar came to bat while team needed a good partnership. Sachin Tendulkar and Shewag both gave the partnership to the team which team was required using their experience. They played extremely well and hit shots all sides which put South African bowlers in trouble but none of the bowler was able to control them. They gave partnership of 249 runs before team lost Shewag when he was at 165 with 23 fours and 2 sixes in his inning. His bat was on fire in this match and proved his ability once again. Soon after him team also lost wicket of Sachin Tendulkar on the ball of Harris. His catch was caught by Kallis when he was at an individual score of 106 runs with 12 fours in his inning. VVS Laxman and S Badrinath were now in middle and now they had to show their game to increase the lead but S Badrinath lost his wicket on the ball of Steyn just scoring 1 run from his bat. India lost five wickets on a total of 336 and had taken a lead of 40 runs till this stage. At the end of the second day, team was at 342 losing 5 wickets. VVS Laxman and A Mishra were in middle scoring 9 and 1 run respectively. Team had got lead of 46 runs but still team has to go too far yet.
Third day of match: Team started from the total of 342 runs and lost Amit Mishra adding 42 runs to total of last day. He gave contribution of 28 runs from his bat. He was caught by Kallis on the ball of Morkel. Team had now lost 6 wickets on total of 384 runs. Indian skipper M S Dhoni came to bat now and he played a captains inning. VVS Laxman and skipper Dhoni both shown magic of their bat and did not give chances to South African team to take away their wickets. Both of them played whole day and none of South African bowler was able to take their wickets as they were determined for making a good lead for the team which can make them win this match. Both hit unbeaten centuries and declared the inning when team was at a total of 643 runs. Dhoni scored unbeaten 132 runs with 12 fours and 3 sixes in his brilliant inning while Laxman made unbeaten 143 runs from his bat with 16 fours. It was day for Dhoni and Laxman as they played brilliant inning for the team and made team reach 643 runs against the score of 296 runs of South Africa in first inning. Team got a lead of 347 runs before they declared the inning. At the end of the third day game South African skipper GC Smith and AN Petersen were in middle scoring 5 and 1 run respectively. South Africa played just 5 balls on third day and did not lose any wicket.
Eyes on bowlers now: Batsmen have done their job well and taken a lead of 347 runs and now its turn of the bowlers to show their game. On day four eyes will be on the bowlers that they take the wickets for the team to clinch the match from South Africa. Zaheer Khan is in good form and had taken 4 wickets in first inning so skipper have hopes from him that he will continue his same performance in second inning as well. Ishant Sharma had got only one wicket in first inning but had bowled well so he has also got chance to take more wickets in the inning and become hero. Spin bowlers Amit Mishra and Harbhajan Singh will also have to show the magic with the bowl. Harbhajan Singh had taken 3 wickets in first inning and once again it is time for him to show his ability again while Amit Mishra had taken only one wicket in first inning but he had also done tight bowling. Indian team will have to prove that they really deserve the first rank in the test ranking by winning this test match and for it they will need again the team effort.
