NRIs to vote in India soon: As it was not allowed to the NRIs to vote in India earlier but, now Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has declared that the NRI’s will be able to cast their votes for the next general elections up to the year 2014. He said that the legitimate desire of Indians living abroad to exercise their franchise and to say something about the Indian governs has already been recognized by the government of India and they are working on the issue also. PM sincerely stated his hope that the NRI’s will get the chance to vote by the time of the next regular general elections. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was attending and heading the eighth edition of Parvasi Bhartiya Divas. Approximately 1500 delegates from around 50 or above countries are attending the seminar that the country hosts have to connect with their 25 million diaspora in 130 countries He advised the overseas Indians to return back to their country and to join politic and public life. The prime Minister stated that the government of India had not been able to deliver the vibrant democracy benefits to the NRI- People all over the overseas.
Pravasi Film fest: The first ever Pravasi film festival has been organized in India, at Delhi by the short film – Trinidad and Tobago. This 23 minutes short film has been directed by Patricia Mohammad. The director of the film is Sangeeta Datta. The film includes the season’s stars like Girish Karnad and Om Puri simultaneously, the mother- daughter, Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan- duo outing first time. Sharmila Tagore said that these types of festivals are very important platforms for NRI’s films because these forums showcase small budget films. As per the actress the Indian diapsora is really dependent on such festivals and seminars as they can show their own issues and concerns through this platform of films.. The films made by Indians living abroad are the part of this Fest. Few of them are like: Monsoon Wedding, New York, The President is coming, inner world of Shahrukh Khan and Flavours. Pankaj Dubey is the co-director of the Pravasi Film Festival, he told that the film fest is the beginning only. Where, 45 films from more than 15 countries have been taken. He said that more NRI film makers should come forward to get a bigger and better market and career opportunities for their talent exposure. This fest is being organized by the international bi-lingual monthly Pravasi Today in collaboration with the India Centre with the support of the Mauritius high commission in India.
Prime Minister- Manmohan Singh’s Life style: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was born on sept’26, 1932 in Punjab. He is an economist by profession and was the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985. Mr. Singh was first elected to the upper house of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha in 1991 and was re-elected in 2001 and 2007. He is 14th and the first Sikh Prime Minister of India. Mr. Singh is a graduate of Punjab University, Chandigarh, the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. He was presented an Honorary Doctor of Laws by the University of Alberta, in 1997. The University of Oxford awarded him an honorary Doctor of Civil Law degree in June 2006 and the same honour was given him by the University of Cambridge in October 2006.Share
