Splitting of iceberg B17B: Global warming is becoming an important concern worldwide and one more important monster like condition is seen in a big iceberg which is splitting into the small icebergs nearby south of Australia. This splitting of the icebergs can cause damage to ships and other resources of the region. The iceberg is breaking into large number of small icebergs which are kilometers wide and are moving towards south western edge of Australia and New Zealand. Both countries have already made alert for the ships that they should not go in the nearby region. This splitting of iceberg was also seen in Antarctica in year 2000 which was a big issue at that time the two major big ice shelves the Ross Sea Ice Shelf and Ronne Ice Shelf were broken and now it is again emerging an issue when there is some problem due to global warming. The problem at present occurring is regarding B17B whose images are taken by NASA floating southwest off the West Australian coast. The NASA satellite took various images of iceberg B17B which is spread over 140 square kilometer of area as a block of ice. This big iceberg is seen somewhere about 1700 kilometer from southwest of Australia’s western coast. The specialists said that it is big issue and this can also create problems in ecology of the system. The splitting of big iceberg into a large number of pieces is also a problem for New Zealand and can also cause global climate effect. The satellites images taken by NASA scientists are under research and it is said that these icebergs may take two weeks or more time to dissolve into the ocean water.

Important factors for the iceberg to break: The main cause which is considered for the iceberg to break is global warming and increase biological activities in the ocean. The big icebergs trapped the terrestrial matter which they are releasing while melting into the sea. These free floating icebergs are also giving rise to more biological activities as they contain carbon dioxide which is exchanged as these pieces are sinking at the bottom of the deep sea. These increasing biological activities can also play a surprising crucial role in the global climate change. Whole world is worried about the burning issue of global warming which is changing the environment. The melting of iceberg is also giving a contribution in rising of sea water levels and other complex climatic changes. Many research works are going on for the study of the issue by the scientists to understand the various changes which will take places and what will be immediate effects on the environment physically, chemically or biologically. The water near by the iceberg is about eight degree Celsius which is more for the sea water and it is enough for the ice to melt slowly. The temperature of the Antarctic Ocean has increased by 3 degree Celsius in last 60 years which is not a good indication for the environment and biological life inside the water. It is necessary to take some immediate action to control the increasing global warming which is affecting biodiversity and environment considerably. It is not the only problem which world is facing due to global warming but their also various other problems which are arising from increasing temperature in environment. These conditions can’t be improved by one country but the whole world need to work together as one to make earth safe from any hazards of future.

Research about the iceberg split: Australian Antarctic Division glaciologist Neal Young said that the iceberg B17B is further giving birth to new small slabs of ice which are breaking further and spreading over more than thousand kilometer of the ocean. He told from study of NASA images that the iceberg was in about 400 square kilometer in area and 40 meters high when it broken for the first time from Antarctica Ocean and it seems to be acting like a monster this time being spreading over a large area and making considerable changes in the region. The breaking up of iceberg is told due to the high temperature at the feet of the iceberg which is making it thinner and weaker due to which it is splitting into the different parts. These icebergs are supposed to dissipate in the ocean water but this may take time. It is not known that how many small icebergs are formed which are moving in Antarctic and Pacific Ocean. It is just a count from the images taken by the satellites that around 130 ice shelves are roaming in Pacific Ocean while 100 or more in another one. It is not easy to sail into such region for the investigation of the condition so some remote sensing devices like small remote operated vehicles are also used for better study of the conditions in the area where iceberg is breaking. The scientists are also trying to study about the changes which are taking place in biological world inside the ocean.

Risk of iceberg split over New Zealand and Australia: This breaking of iceberg has also become a problem for New Zealand and they have also made alert for the ships not to sail in the region of affect and nearby as they can face serious hazards. These broken shelves are drifting towards New Zealand and may cause serious damages to the ships in south part of Pacific Ocean. The nearest iceberg shelve which is noticed nearby the New Zealand is about 30 meters tall and is about 260 kilometers away from southeast coast of New Zealand’s Stewart Island. Such floating of large number of icebergs in area close to New Zealand was noticed in year 2006. Australia has also warned its shipping sailors not to go into the sea because of large number of big iceberg shelves floating in the ocean which can take lives and cause other harms. The melting of the ice shelves will depend upon the weather conditions, temperature and ocean currents.
