India beat Syria to lift Nehru Cup: Finally on Monday August 31, 2009, India won the Nehru cup after beating Syria by 5-4. India beat Syria in penality shoot outs and hence won the second successive Nehru cup title. The match was played in the Ambedkar Stadium on Monday. Subroto Paul, the goal keeper becomes the man of the match. He also saved the three penalties to become India’s savior. India’ captain got yellow card: The match was totally hot, tensed and keened that the referee had to interfere in the match many times to calm down the players.
