Aussies Fired Up for T20

With just few days left in the beginning of the Cricket T20 world cup in England. The Australian Squad is all set to fire up the game. Here are the members of the Australian Squad: Ricky Ponting (captain), Michael Clarke (vice-captain),Nathan Bracken ,Brad Haddin ,Nathan Hauritz ,Ben Hilfenhaus ,James Hopes,David Hussey,Mike Hussey ,Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee ,Peter Siddle ,Andrew Symonds, David Warner,Shane Watson.

Australia won the World Cup Cricket in 2007 and went to play the T20 World cup with the same squad. The only difference was that of Bret Lee who was injured in the World Cup played earlier and was not in the squad that went to West Indies. Unfortunately the side which had players like Adam Gilchrist, Hayden, Symonds, Ponting and many other world class players, it still struggled to find its place in the tournament. In the T20 World cup Australians were not looking playing the game what for they are known. They even lost the game in a last ball thriller to Zimbabwe which was the biggest upset of the tournament history. They lost the game by five wickets. It was Brendon Taylor who upset the Australians big time. He effected one stumping, took two catches, did a run out and then scored unbeaten 60 runs to guide Zimbabwe to victory.

Australians did register a victory over England and came back into the tournament. It was Nathan Bracken and Mitchell Johnson picked up three wickets each and then the rest of the job was completed by Matthew Hayden who hammered English bowlers. Not less than him was Adam Gilchrist who joined the fair and took Australia to an easy victory. Now Australian hopes were back as they sailed into the next round. The next game against Bangladesh saw a superb bowling attack from the Australian pace battery. Brett Lee impressed very much. He peppered the inexperienced Bangladesh batsmen with his short pitch deliveries. He got a hat-trick in this game and it was the first ever hat-trick in the T20 World cup. Also Australia went home with an easy 7 wicket victory. In the next super 8 match Australia lost to Pakistan. Sohail Tanvir was the hero of the game. In his first four overs he took 3 wickets for just 31runs. Mishbah-ul-Haq and Shoaib Malik both scored unbeaten half centuries and Pakistan clinched an easy 6 wicket victory. Now comes the do or die situation. Australia had to beat Sri Lanka to secure berth in the semi finals. Australia got it easily as they only had to score 101 runs which Gilchrist and Hayden completed in just 10.2 overs only.

In the semifinals whatever came with Australia from the Super 8 games was lost in the semifinal game against India. Yuvraj Singh hit a blasting 70 of just 30 balls and India set a target of 189. Not even a single batsman was not able contribute a match winning knock and Australians lost the game by 15 runs.

Australians won both the ICC Cricket World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy and were planning to make it a hat trick by winning the T20 World cup as well. The dreams were shattered. The spirit is still on. The disappointment that they had in the semifinals of the World cup T20 in 2007 hurt the Australian side. They are fired up for success and they will leave no stone unturned to register a victory and take home the T20 Championship.
